Thought for the Day

Saturday 14 September

Whoever approaches Me walking, I will come to him running; and he who meets Me with sins equivalent to the whole world, I will greet him with forgiveness equal to it.

— Mishkat al-Masabih

Eknath Easwaran's Commentary

The Lord, the Self, wants nothing more than that we should all be united with him. He is very eager to see us take the first step, but he knows us very well by now: he watches carefully to see that we take that step and do not wobble back and forth. It is not enough just to put your foot forward and touch it lightly to the ground; you must put your weight on it completely. When we do take that step – by bearing patiently with those around us, or by changing some unhealthy habit – we can be sure that he will run toward us. But we must take the first step.

The Thought for the Day is today's entry from Eknath Easwaran's Words to Live By.
